It is 9 degrees outside right now, this is decidedly NOT spring. While we didn’t have a particularly hard winter, by this time it is just long, really long. Steve and I both have cabin fever and this morning when I let the girls out even the fact that there were birds singing did not lift my spirits.
My lilac buds are plumping out a bit, we have more daylight and of course the birdsong, but if it was not for those signs it would be easy to believe this would never end. No wonder these things were so celebrated by early people and fill us with such joy.
It hasn’t been warm enough yet for the bees to have toddled out so we are not sure how they did over the winter, no reason to think they didn’t make it, but always a relief when you see them that first day in the spring.
For our part I guess we will just hunker down and keep planning for the thaw. Steve is going to redesign the rabbit housing for our restart of the rabbitry after we lost our 2 in the heat wave last year. We are getting one doe from Erica and Joel over at http://emancipationacres.com/ and still on the lookout for a buck and at least one other doe.
The lotion was a success, I need to get back into the kitchen and make another test batch or two then make some bigger batches for the website. Soap is curing, kittens are sleeping, and shepherds pie is on the menu for dinner tonight.
